The prayers of every VR headset owning Rick and Morty fan have been answered, as ‘Virtual Rick-ality’, A VR game/experience based off the hit TV show has just been announced!
Although little is known about the title currently, it is being developed by Owlchemy labs, the guys responsible for one of the most entertaining early VR games; Job Simulator. Given what’s been shown in the painfully teasing 15-second trailer, combined with the fact that Owlchemy have actually said that Virtual Rick-ality will be “the combination of our favorite TV show of all time combined with Job Simulator.” it’s certainly looking like Virtual Rick-ality will probably take somewhat of the same shape.
For those who aren’t familiar with the show, Rick and Morty is a cartoon about an alcoholic Scientist (Rick), and his easily influenced grandson (Morty), who are partial to a spot of time travel via their garage-based laboratory.
The creators of Rick and Morty, Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, are collaborating with Owlchemy on the project and are giving them plenty of room to manoeuvre, with Owlchemy saying that “Generally it’s been a great relationship working back and forth and they’ve given us carte blanche on what to do with the story”.
With regards to the gameplay itself, it has been announced that the title is planned to be a full game, rather than just a demo or an interactive scene. Also, it has been revealed by Owlchemy that the player will not be restricted to the confines of the garage, as you will be able to time travel through portals into new environments. This is pretty damn cool as anyone who’s seen the show will know, this means the possibilities are nearly endless.
The Game gets its first display at the San Diego Comic Con, so we’ll have to wait and see what is actually waiting for us then, but if it’s anything like the stupid fun of Job simulator or the hilarity of Rick and Morty itself, then Virtual Rick-ality is something we can all look forward to.
